There are a number of very strict fencing regulations all across Australia, with only a few differences between them. With All Things Glass, you don’t need to worry about these regulations, because we will make sure that your pool fencing in Perth is fully compliant. For your information however, here are the basics of the rules for WA, so you can make sure that your current fencing is safe for your family.
What type of pools do the regulations cover?
Any pool that will hold more than 300mm depth of water must comply with the WA safety regulations (this includes above ground pools). Don’t forget that if you are installing a new one you will need to obtain a building permit as well, before you start. What are the pool fence height regulations? Your safety fencing must be at least 1200mm in height and any horizontal cross members must be at least 900mm apart. The distance between the bottom of the fencing and the solid ground must not be more than 100mm. You can use your boundary fencing as part of the fence, so long as it complies with these regulations. What are the pool fence slat regulations? If you use timber fencing, then the gap between the vertical timber slats must not be more than 10mm, so children and toddlers cannot gain a foothold. With our glass pool fencing in Perth, you don’t have to worry about slats as our glass panels are flush and streamlined. What are the pool fence material regulations? Your fencing material must be durable and comply with Australian Standards. Common materials include aluminum, timber steel and of course glass. Our glass fencing gives you an uninterrupted view across your garden and pool area, letting you keep an eye on your children quite easily, as well as being great for small backyards. What about pool gates? These gates must open away from the pool, must comply with height and clearance requirements and be self closing. All of the gate components must also comply with Australian Standards. Stop children climbing over your pool fence As an additional precaution to prevent children from climbing over your pool fence, the WA pool safety regulations stipulate that there must be a 1.2m clearance between climbable objects and the fencing. This include outdoor furniture, trees, walls and BBQs.
